KONSPIRAZINE (PHL)
INTERVIEW 2013

-CHRONIC GREETINGS ! PLEASE TELL US YOUR NAME AND THE DETAILS OF YOUR ZINE
Hello bro, thanks for the interest in doing this intie. My name's Jeff and I put out this zine based outta Binan. Laguna whenever time permits. I am a music fanatic of all genres but my zine leans more on the Hardcore and Punk side.

-WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO START PUBLISHING YOUR OWN ZINE?
Back in the early 90's, I got to know some really cool folks who were heavy players in the local scenes. That was where I got to know most everyone in the scene, and the vets schooled me on everything that I know know, including the fanzine counter-culture. Ever since I was a kid, I was a sucker for anything print-related, be it books, zines and whatnot, I graduated from collecting glossy import music magazines in favor of the independently pressed (or photocopied, must I say) zines that touched bases with the bands and the scenes I was indirectly involed in. I found the idea of creating your own shot, putting it out yourself, and not being the boss of anyone else to be most liberating. From the early issues of Rock N Rhythm, to the punk hardcore zines of Anti, KeepdaFaith, etc, those early gems influenced me a great deal, more than anything else.

-HOW DID YOU COME OUT WITH THE NAME OF YOUR ZINE?
I started the zine as a collaboration of sorts with another fellow who was at the time running his own zine in San Pedro, Laguna. We abandoned our own zines and joined forces to do Conspirazine. The name was a play on the word conspire. Nowadays, (since 2009 or so), I have revived this dead horse and took off printing, pretty much doing everything on my own as my former zine partner now resides abroad.

-HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH A THEME FOR YOUR ZINE?
I don't have a theme, per se. But most issues, I try to keep a simple theme that I can ask all bands/people I interview the same theme related stuff. On the actual zine itself, although it delas with mostly Punk and Hardcore, genre-wise I don't limit myself to what gets put inside my zine's pages. I've had some metal in there, will put some Ska and Reggae stuff too,.Anything that interests me and anything that I dig. Hell, I could put in pics of my dog if I wanted to.

-WHAT ZINES INSPIRES YOU?
aside from the zines of old, nowadays I get my kick from these local masters of the craft: SCRAWLSHOP, WAVE OF DARKNESS, IN DARK PURITY, NO BULLSHIT, TRIDENT NATION, I REMEMBER HALOWEEN, REAL TIGHT CREW, TIGHT END, BELIEVE, TOGETHER, EKSENA LOKAL, WE THE INFECTED, CAVITY SEARCH, BASAG ANG PULA (Highly fuckin' recommended), DISPATCHES, INCIDENTAL AFTERTHOUGHT. all of these cool zines are currently the cream of the crop, and I'd highly recommend searching these titles and getting to know their owners and building friendship with them. They make cool fuckin' issues everytime, all the time.

-CAN YOU STILL REMEMBER YOUR VERY FIRST ROMANCE WITH A ZINE? WHAT ZINE WAS IT?
Wendy Says zine took many-a-trips with me to the bathroom back when I was a kid. And the Probe fanzines done by the guys from California. Hahaha.

-WHEN DID YOUR ZINE'S FIRST ISSUE COME OUT?
I made my first amateur zine (pre-Konspirazine) in 96-97? then I put out Konspirazine # 1 in 1998.

-HOW MANY ISSUES HAVE YOU PUBLISHED SO FAR?
Konspirazine is right now churning it's sixth issue. That little pice of trash woulda been put out last December 2012, but I am an extremely lazy fuck who can't find any valid excuse so let's leave it at that..

-IS YOUR ZINE FOR SALE/NOT FOR SALE/FOR TRADE?
By heirarchy, I prefer trades first. It doesn't matter if you made the zine yourself, or if you just photocopied that shit. I want to trade you for it. It's always cool reading other people's work, and way cooler when you got it through a trade. Nevermind the shit zines. At least you get to know the quality ones from the mediocre. I do sell my shit as well but as a zinemaker yourself, you'd know that no one buys zines anymore.

-HOW DID YOU GET IT OUT THERE?
Gigs, trades, etc.

-WHO WAS THE FIRST BAND/PEOPLE YOU INTERVIEWED? HOW?
Pre-konspirazine I had Cherrybomb, Tribal Fish, Kelt's Cross. and on my first issue of Konspirazine, I got Loads Of Motherhood, Bulldozed, Counter Attack and Homecide. All locals.

-HOW DO YOU GATHER AND ROUND UP CONTRIBUTORS?
The easy part is my contributors are all cool friends of mine. The hardest part is nagging them like a bitch whenever I'm ready to drop my baby. The same rings true for zines that ask me to contribute to them as well. I can be laziest motherfucker you'd get to know who sends in my contributions a year late! haha,.

-IT WAS A VERY LONG STRUGGLE, HOW HAVE YOUR POLICIES TOWARDS ADVERTISING AND REVIEWS CHANGED THROUGH OUT THIS YEARS?
I don't have a policy, period. I don't ask around for ads. I don't dream of getting any fucking money by doing this shit. The rule, if there is one, is pretty basic. If I like your shit, I will put it in my zine. be it through interviews, be it adverts of your releases, or getting your shit reviewed on my pages. I'd put in your ads of band shirts as long as I know you do shirts for the love of doing shirts and not for the love of "looking tough". That shit is meant for Pulp magazine, not mine. Believe it or not, most stuff I review were PURCHASED by myself. So if folks wanna have space on my zine, they better be damned sure their shit is something I dig (and would buy). The only thing I got free for doing my zine was more enemies.

-YOUR GOALS?
I don't have a goal for this zine, man. I don't have any visions of becoming a glossy, popular bitch magazine. I will do this zine as long as the music still interests me, as long as my friends still enjoy reading them as much as I do creating them. As long as I have ten readers continuously interested in my work, that should be enough.

-WHERE CAN THE READERS CONTACT YOU?
I have an irregular blog up where folks get to see any updates whenever time permits at therealstrength.blogspot.com, any quick messages can be thrown at the chatbox on that page, otherwise my email address is spiritofrebellion981@gmail.com

-BIG THANKS FOR THIS INTIE BROTHER !
Likewise, it was a pleasure indulging in this interview bro. Thank you for the interest. Maraming salamat! Love music, purchase records (cds, tapes, and wax, when you love the music.) make your own zines! Read.

Sincerity, Integrity, Faith & Action!

EATING SHIT [France]
Interviewed by Anto ChronicoreZine
2013

1) WARM GREETINGS MY FRIENDS ! WHERE IN FRANCE EXACTLY IS EATING SHIT BASE? DO YOU HAVE A VERY ACTIVE MUSIC SCENE THERE?

1.We live in Haute Savoie, near Switzerland (Geneva) in the Alps very near Mont Blanc the highest mountain of Europe. It’s a quite wealthy part of France, very touristical.
Regarding music, there is an underground scene here but it is not the most famous place for grind. The most active scene takes place in the north of France.

2) WHAT'S THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BAND'S NAME?

2.At the beginning, when we were young, we wanted an extreme and at the same time funny name. At that time we were often watching trash films, that name came naturally. To-day we especially like the claiming tone of the name. Eating Shit is what men do everyday with TV, over consumption, GMO, meat industry etc…

3) HAVE YOU BEEN IN ANY OTHER BANDS BEFORE? WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO START YOUR BAND?

3.Braak and I played in groups of black metal until beginning of years 2000. Even though if Braak has a solo project of extreme metal (Empty Hope) and if I have registered an EP with the group of trash/death Backdawn (https://www.facebook.com/Backdawnofficial?ref=ts&fref=ts), Eating Shit is our real group.

4) WHO ARE THE MEMBERS? HOW LONG HAVE EATING SHIT BEEN GOING NOW?

4.We are 3 since 2008, when we chose the electronic drums, but we were more at the beginning, at that time we had a real beater. There was a 4 years stop between those 2 periods.

5) I MUST SAY YOU EXCELLENTLY GRIND AND PLAY YOUR MUSIC WELL MY FRIENDS. WHICH BANDS HAVE INFLUENCED YOU, AND WHO ARE YOU INTO AT THE MOMENT?

5.Thanks ! It’s a pleasure to read that ! The 3 of us listen nearly every style of extreme metal as well of other more gentle bands (reggae, rock etc…)

6) HOW MANY ALBUMS HAVE YOU RELEASED? PLEASE SHARE US EATING SHIT'S DISCOGRAPHY

6.For the time being we have 4 auto-productions : 2 of grind/crust (“Eating Shit” in 2003 and “world of shit” in 2004) and 2 of electro-grind (paradox in 2010 and bon appétit in 2011). We are presently registering a new album of electro black metal.

7) HAVE YOU PLAYED OUTSIDE FRANCE? ARE YOU FOCUS INTO EATING SHIT FULL-TIME OR DO YOU HAVE JOBS?

7.We played once in Geneva. All our other concerts took place in France, in various places but especially in our region. Eating Shit is a leisure, we are a small band, it would not be possible to live of it. Few metal bands can live from their music, thus it’s even worse for extreme bands !!

ARE THERE LOTS OF GRINDCORE AND EXTREME BANDS THERE IN YOUR SCENE? HOW ABOUT A PUNK CRUSTIES SCENE?

8.Yes there is a good scene in France with bigbands as Inhumate. I do not know very well crust/punk scene but in fact there are more and more bands of that kind.

PLEASE NAME SOME BANDS WE SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR...

As for grind I would mention especially the underground :
Glavio (http://www.bandmine.com/artist/music/glavio/1113575) Departement of Correction (https://www.facebook.com/departmentofcorrection?fref=ts) Injuria (http://www.myspace.com/injuriamusic) L.A.R.D.O.N. (http://crustgrind.wix.com/lardon)

9 ) ARE YOU GUYS VEGETARIANS? IS VEGANISM THE IDEAL TO ASPIRE TO?

9. I am the only vegetarian (and not vegan) of the band but as it’s me and our friend Blytch (https://www.facebook.com/Blytch1) who write the sentences, it shows through the texts.

IS ANIMAL RIGHTS AN IMPORTANT CAUSE? DO YOU SUPPORT THE ACTIONS OF THE ANIMAL LIBERATION FRONT
DO YOU JOIN MARCHES AND PROTESTS? (ALF)?

The respect of animal is very important for me and essential to allow human being to respect the human kind. I respect and support ALF , as well as other causes, as for instance the wolf defence. It came back naturally in France and is hunted and persecuted in spite of the European protection granted to that species. Consequently, I also join different associations who act against intensive breeding as well as protection of ecosystems…

10) DO YOU THINK MARIJUANA SHOULD BE LEGALIZED? OR IS IT LEGAL THERE IN FRANCE?

10. In France the use of Marijuana is not legal and is far to become legal. However there is no severe repression against smokers because France is one of the biggest European consumers, even before Netherlands (where it’s legal !). France being a great producer of wine, alcohol is easily consumed. If legalization could allow the end of black market and fight against mafioso it would be a good thing.
I have no doubt that encouraging young people to smoke is not a good thing for public health. We must not forget that it can become a real problem carrying study failure and social problems. I knew myself some cases. It’s as for everything in life, one must know how not to pass over some limits and this is not easy for everybody.

11) WHERE DO YOU RECORD YOUR SONGS? YOUR 2 ALBUMS "PARADOX" & "BON APPETIT" BLASTS OUT GREAT, DECENTLY EXCELLENTLY QUALITY RECORDED. MOST BANDS HERE IN THE PHILIPPINES CANT AFFORD COSTLY STUDIOS TO RECORD THEIR MUSIC.

11. We register ourselves our CD. The two last ones were mixed and masterised by Mulk (http://www.myspace.com/mulksong) who works in the rough electro grind. We had no means enough to register in a real studio and to make a professional press. We like auto-production, sympathetic products come out in that way. Thus they have a personal touch !!

12) DO YOU HAVE ANY OFFERS FROM BIG LABELS, WILL YOU SIGN IF APPROACHED? ARE YOU STILL PRETTY MUCH A SORT OF D.I.Y. BAND?

12. No, never, we are a little band and our grind style (electro) has not received real recognition. But it’s OK for us, we like being in the underground scene. Yes we are a DIY brand since the beginning, more than 10 years ago, and we are proud of it.

13) WHAT'S THE MOST INSANE GIG YOU HAVE BEEN TO SO FAR?

13. Our biggest live took place in Geneva, at Brutal assault 5 with Yacopsae and this year in Bordeaux (town of same name wine) at the Underground Blast Fest3 with the legendar Agathocles).

14) DO THE POLICE BOTHER YOU WHEN YOU HAVE SHOWS? HAVE YOU HAD ANY ENCOUNTERS WITH THEM?

14. No, in France we have a great artistical liberty and I never had any problem with police at any of the concerts to which I attended as spectator or player. One may be dressed, listen and think whatever he wants in our country.

15) FRANCE WAS RAVAGED BY TWO GREAT WARS, DO YOU AS PART OF THE YOUNGER GENERATION STILL FEELS ITS EFFECTS?

15.The 3 of us were born at the end of the 70ies/ beginning of the 80ies. Those who knew 2nd world war and the invasion of our country are our grandparents. Even if that period is taught to us at school, our generation does not feel very concerned with those two wars. Society changed so much and youth is so fed with this era of numerical leisure that those events seem very remote.

16) THE LEGACY OF HITLER IS STILL VERY MUCH ALIVE TODAY. NAZI SYMPHATIZERS, HATE GROUPS, THE KKK, AND RACIST BANDS PRETTY MUCH STILL EXIST TODAY. WHAT'S YOUR TAKE ON THIS?

16. Unfortunately this vermin will always make part of life, whatever form or name it will take. Plenty of human beings are intolerant. Personally I never had problems with Nazis in France but I know that numerous skinhead groups are active in big cities. But it’s not a majority. Anyway, nothing to be compared with the Greece Golden Dawn for instance. There are some groups of NSBM but they are not as rough as in some eastern countries.
However we have a nationalist party named Front National who, under an apparent more moderated style, is anyway a fascism party. The worse is that it seduced part of the youth who begins to adhere to nationalist and identitary ideas instead of claiming, constructive and responsibly ones.

17) CAN WE EXPECT MORE FROM EATING SHIT IN THE FUTURE?

17. We have several projects under completion :
-An EP with a real drummer is completely registered and only waits to be mixed
- We are registering a CD “electro black metal” which will come out early 2013 and will be a little different from our usual style
-We also have another CD project with various invited who will take in charge the drums programmation.
-At last we are included in the new compilation “in Grindo Veritas” forecasted for beginning 2013, which groups about thirty of French bands. It’s kaotoxin label who initiated the project (https://www.facebook.com/kaotoxinrecords).
